Installing soffit and fascia
Please rrote Although vinyl soffit's are manufactured with the same exacting
standards as all vinyl products; JV Inhibitors are riot added to the vinyl formulation
as soffits are not exposed to direct sunlight. For this reason, vertical or horizontal
installation of soffits on walls is not recommended and cannot be guaranteed.
Installing trim - Option A
When fascia is applied without exposed nailing
With open eave: Secure F-channel to the exterior of the fascia with the top leg
resting against the bottom of the board. Secure F-channel on wall, level with the
F-channel on the fascia
With closed eave: Use a J-channel in place of the F-channel at the wall. Secure all
channels every 12" on center, in center of nail slots,
Installing trim - Option B
When soffit only is applied, or when fascia panel is secured to underside
of wood fascia.
With open save: Secure F-channel to the wall and to the inside of the fascia board,
level with each other. Cut out back of channel to fit around rafters, if needed.
With closed eave: Substitute J-channels for the F-channels.
Secure all channels in the center of the nail slots, 12" on center.
lrlalling soffit
I Measure the distance between the inside of the inside and outside trims. Allow
1/4' per s de for expansion and cut the panels to length. Insert panels into Inars.
For eaves over 1V'in width, you will need to install intermediate nailing supports
to keep the soffit from sagging,
2. Interlock panels as you would vertical siding. Closed soffit can be secured every
12" on center
3. When fascia panel is not being applied, use an F-channel or J-channel at Comers
of the overhang to properly finish the installation.
4. When soffits meet at a corner, the joint can either be diagonal (mitered) or square
(both illustrated). Both methods are made with J-channel or H-channel.
f lmo Sal
Option B
,roeaek H-Channel
Installing soffit and fascia
Installing fascia
I . Install an undersill trim at the top of the fascia board.
2. Measure distance from the bottom of the F-channel to the top ofthe undersill trim,
and then subtract 1/4" for clearance. Out panel to width.
3 Perforate the cut edge using snap -lock punch approximately every 8', ensuring the
" tabs' face outward.
4. Houk the leg of the fascia panel over the F channel, and snap the tabs into the
undersill trim. If soffit is not being installed, hook the fascia directly over the
fascia board.
An alternative to snap,4ock punch attachment is to slide the top of the fascia behind
metal drip -edge.
Overlapping fascia
1. Overlap fascia by cutting the bottom edge of the underlaying panel, leaving
a 1 IJ2' tab to he inserted into overlapping pariel
2. Overlap 314" (half the distance of the notch).
Fascia installation
"it.1i
Fascia overlapping
,114'
Capping fascia
To make corner caps, cut a piece of vinyl fascia that is 5 112 long.
1. Mark the vertical centerine on the back of the piece.
4
2. Cut a 90' section of the bottom flange frorn the center, leaving a
46' angle on either side.
3. Use a hand seamer of metal straightedge to fold fascia piece
along vertical centerflne to make a right-angled corner.
4. Using a snap -lock punch, make
tabs just below the top edge f the
corner cap, making sure thatotabs
face outward. Install corner 0 p by
looking the bottom over the existing
F-channel and snapping the top
Kaycan PVC Siding is used as an exterior veneer and as
closure material on the underside of exterior roof uaes
(soffits)
3.0 DESCRIPTION
Kaycan PVC Siding is horizontal and vertical lap siding and
soffits manufactured from rigid polyvinyl chloride tPVC)
conforming to the requirements ofASTM D 3679 The siding
is used as an exterior wall covering over solid sheathing and
as soffit. The siding has a plan- or wood -grain texture and is
available in various colors vvith matching trim, comers, and
starter strips. The panels are a minimum ofO.040 inch (I mm)
thick. Lengths range from 10 to 12.5 feet (3048 to 3810 mm).
Panels are formed with an upper edge having nail slots and a
loweredg8 that hooks impthe upper edge ofthe lower Course.
The s;lding is produced in different profiles as described in
Table 1 of this report.
4.0 INSTALLATION
4.1 General:
Installation ofthe siding, including the panels, comers. starter
strips, trim and other accessory items, shall be in accorclance.
with the manufacturer's published installation instructions, the
applicable code and this report. In the event of a conflict
between the manufacturens published installation instructions
and this report, this report shall govern. A copy of the
manufacturers published installation instructions shall he on
the jobsite at all times during installation.
Solid sheathing and a water -resistive barrier shall be
provided behind the siding, as required by the applicabie
code
The allowable wind loads are as noted in the prescriptive
requirements of the applicable code. See Section 4.2 for
applications in excess of the prescriptive requirements or
where the app, icable code does not provide prescriptive
requirements.
4.2 Wind Resistace:
Design wind pressures must be determined in accordance
vvhl) Chapter 16 of the IBC, SBC, UBC or BNBC or Section
301.2-1.1 oftho IRC. In areaswhere the basicvvind speed (3-
second gust do not exceed 100 mph (45 mis) [80 miles per
hour (36 m1s) (fastest mile) under the UB% and the building
height is less lhan or equal to 40 feet (12 192 mm) in
Exposure C areas, installation must comply with the
prescriptive requirements of IBC Section 1406.13, BNBC
Section 1406,3.3, SBC Section 1403.9 or UBC Section 1405,
as applicable.
In jurisdictions enforcing the IRC, installation much comply
with the prescriptive requirements of IRC Section R703.4 for
areaswhere the basiewind speed (3-second gust) islessthan
110 mph (49 mist in Exposure B, and does not exceed 90
mph (40 m/s) in Exposure C or 85 mph (37 m1s) in Exposure
D. Forapplications in excessofthe prescriptive requirements,
the design must be. in accordance vvith IRG Section
l 1.1
For applications in excess ofthe prescriptive requirements,
the Kaycm PVC Siding has an allowable negative wind load
of 70 psf (3352 Pa) (44 psf (2,107 Pal under the UBC] when
attached to a code -complying, minimum %-inch-thick (to
mro), structural -rated OSB sheathing. The siding shall be
attached with 1'1,-inch-long (38 mm), 'linch-diameter-head
(10 mrip), 'Icinch-diameter-shank (3 mm), corrosion-resistani
roofing nails spaced 6 inches (152 mm) on center. The
structural sheathing and framing to which the siding is
attached are outside the scope ofthis report.
