SECTION 01 1416 <br />COORDINATION WITH OCCUPANTS <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.1 NO INTERRUPTION OF OCCUPANCY <br />A. Work is required to be performed within existing building. Each Contractor will have access to <br />areas in which this work occurs, subject to rights of Owner. <br />B. Owner will occupy existing building during life of this contract. Schedule all work at such time <br />and in such a manner to minimize interference and inconvenience to public, staff and Owner's <br />operations. Contractor must obtain approval of Owner before starting any work within any <br />existing area of building. <br />C. Area immediately surrounding all areas of Work shall be protected from danger of materials <br />being dropped or dislodged. <br />D. Work shall be carried out in a manner that will not impose avoidable hardship, danger, or <br />inconvenience to public or staff. <br />E. Prior to commencement of Work, Contractor and Owner shall jointly survey construction site <br />and surrounding areas, making permanent record of such existing damage as cracks, <br />malfunctioning utility equipment and fixtures, or other similar damage. This record shall serve <br />as a basis for determination of subsequent damage to these structures and adjacent areas due to <br />Contractor's operations. Any damage of any nature to these structures and adjacent areas not <br />noted in original survey but subsequently noted, shall be reported immediately to Owner. <br />1.2 DISRUPTION OF EXISTING SERVICES <br />A. Work shall be planned so as to minimize shutdown time of any service. <br />I . Request approval of a utility or equipment shutdown in writing to Owner not less than five <br />(5) working days before time shutdown is desired. Provide Owner an estimate of duration of <br />shutdown and how facility is going to be affected. <br />2. Coordinate with Owner's building engineering staff in advance of any shut down. <br />3. Begin work only after engineering staff is fully informed and has agreed to schedule of shut <br />offs. <br />4. Do not cut into existing services without first verifying with Owner that service has been <br />correctly identified and shut off. <br />5. Operation of existing valves, switches, etc., to effect service shutdown will be completed by <br />Owner, unless arranged otherwise. <br />B. Limit duration of each such disruption of service to maximum of 4 hours or as approved by <br />Owner. <br />C. Fabricate and install interconnecting portions of these systems prior to shut down for final <br />connections. <br />D. Maintain utilities or other service, indicated to be abandoned, in service or provide alternate <br />means of service until new facilities are provided, tested, and put in operation. <br />E. Maintain fire protection and fire alarm systems at all times within existing facilities. <br />F. Review all existing conditions, drawings and other documents for proper coordination between <br />new and existing construction. <br />G. Active utilities whose locations are unknown to Owner are suspected to exist. Contractor shall <br />be cautious of their existence.
