..

..-

CHAPTER III
PIPING REQUIREMENTS

Fl,"1
, .
.

Pyro a.n Aurom8tic Restannt Systems pennit a v.n.ty of
unbalanced piping configurations. Galvanized pipe cannot be
used.

The PCl-165/275/550 systemS have been cIlNeIoped using a
system of flow points. Each system has a maximum of:
I. PC1.-165 - 6 flow points
II. PC1.-275 - 10 flow points.
III. PC1.-550 - 20 flow points.

Pyre Chem uses a flow point system to permit maximum flex-
ibility in piping; Each nozzle has a flow point rating as follows:

NL-D (Duct Nozzle) ............... 3 flow points
NL-P (P1enumlOuct Nozzle) .., . . . . . .. 1 flow point
NL-A (Apprl8nce/Plenum Nozzle) ...... 1 flow point
NL-R (Radiant Charbroiler Nozzle) ..... 1 flow point
NL-UB (Upright Broiler Nozzle) ....... Instead. limits are placed on pipe lengths in termS
of actual length of pipe and equivalent lengdt of fittings. All
pipe fittings develop a pressure loss which can be equated to
the losa through a specific length of straight pipe. This loss
~ the equivalent length of the fitting. The equivalent length
of fitting is always added to the total pipe length to determine
the equivalent length of the branch. Table 3-1 illustrates the
equivalent of pipe fittings used in PCL-16512751550 systems.

Table 3-1. In general. this will be a straight line run us-
ing _ to "branch" off the main. Limitations on main supp-
ly line piping are shown in Table 3-4.

The main supply line when used with the PeL-550 for
b8I8nced split systems Will utif'lZe the y.. diameter pipe to
supply from the cytinder to the tee which spats the system
to each separate hazard am. The ~. diameter pipe is not
permitted to have any branch lines in this application. The .
pipe run extending from each side of the tee is reduced to
Y.z. ciameter pipe from which each side will supply a max-
inun of ten flow points. Each side must be balanced within
one flow point and not more than a ~ 10 percent imbalance
on piping run. LimitationS on main SUIJPIy line piping are
shown in Table 3-5.

NOTE
The PC1.-550 is only to be utilized in acess of ten flow
points. If the tataJ of flow points is below ten, a
PC1.-275 or PC1.-165 system should be used..

15

UL EX3830
ULC CJ:XS12
MN 1. 1988

. ._-~- ...------- --- -- -- ---.- .._- ..---- -- - .--- .~
