<br /> <br />Prepare Sill Pan <br />The sill pwi is a three-sided box made of thin, bendable, rigid sheet material that is not water <br />degradable (such as sheet metal .flashing) that the window sits in on the rough opening. It is designed <br />to catch er that infiltrates into the rough opening and divert it to the outside. This prevents <br />damage fro water collecting on the rough opening sill. Refer to Diagram 2: Sill Pan Preparation. <br />1 Prepar the sill pan as follows: <br />. Fo concrete/block wall, and for 2"x4" sheathed and open-stud walls <br />idJh of sheet material should be at least 6" (or at least 1/2" wider than the framing) <br />ength of sheet material should equal the length of the rough opening + 1" <br />a 2"x6" sheathed and open-stud walls <br />idJh of sheet material should be at least 9" <br />ength of sheet material should equal the length of the rough opening + I" <br />2 Creas. lines in the sill pan as follows (1A: concrete/masonry wall, or, 2A: sheathed/open-stud wall): <br />. L. ghtly crease a line inset 112" along both ends and one side of the sheet metal flashing <br />. easure the width of the side jamb (fig. 1) and add 9/16" <br />te: For double-hung product, be sure the back dam is sufficient in height to be sealed to the <br />in erior face afthe window sill. <br />. T ke this distance and measure out from the back side; crease a line the length of the flashing <br />For c ncrete/mosonry wall, <br />. Cpt the sill pan at the solid lines as illustrated in 1A <br />3 Fold t~e sill pan as follows: <br />. F~ld the three 112" sides up; using pliers, fold corners to outside of pan on short sides (IB, 2B) <br />.
