Prepare Sill Pan
The sill pwi is a three-sided box made of thin, bendable, rigid sheet material that is not water
degradable (such as sheet metal .flashing) that the window sits in on the rough opening. It is designed
to catch er that infiltrates into the rough opening and divert it to the outside. This prevents
damage fro water collecting on the rough opening sill. Refer to Diagram 2: Sill Pan Preparation.
1 Prepar the sill pan as follows:
. Fo concrete/block wall, and for 2"x4" sheathed and open-stud walls
idJh of sheet material should be at least 6" (or at least 1/2" wider than the framing)
ength of sheet material should equal the length of the rough opening + 1"
a 2"x6" sheathed and open-stud walls
idJh of sheet material should be at least 9"
ength of sheet material should equal the length of the rough opening + I"
2 Creas. lines in the sill pan as follows (1A: concrete/masonry wall, or, 2A: sheathed/open-stud wall):
. L. ghtly crease a line inset 112" along both ends and one side of the sheet metal flashing
. easure the width of the side jamb (fig. 1) and add 9/16"
te: For double-hung product, be sure the back dam is sufficient in height to be sealed to the
in erior face afthe window sill.
.
