9. Mule-Hide recommends the use of PVC Coated Metal for scuppers and metal
overflows. '
10. AIi Mule-Hide PVC Coated Metal shall be fabricated to form hemmed edges to
prevent sharp metal edges from cutting the membrane, except when used in
conjunction with wood nailers. '
B. PVC Mnbrane Flashings
1. All membrane flashings are to be installed concuRently with the roaf inembrane
as the job progresses. Temporary flashings are not allawed without prior writtn
approval from the Mule-Hide Warranty Department. Should any water peneUate
the new roofing because of incomplete flashings, the affected areas shall be
removed and replaced at the contradtor's expense.
2. All PVC Membrane flashings shall be fully adhered using Mule-Hide's PVC
Bonding Adhesive. The following conditions must be met:
a. All surtaces to be fully adhered should be compatible, dry and smooth
with no excessive surface roughness. tf an existing asphalt surtace is
present, a 1/2" minimum plyvwod, 9 oz. polyester felt, acceptable
insulation board or 26-gauge minimum galvgnized metal barrier must be
plaoed over the asphaltic surface.
b. After the proper surface has been prepared, Mule-Hide's PVC Bonding
Adhesive shall be applied using a minimum 1/2" nap paint roller at a rate
of approximately 60 square feet per gallon a# "firshed surface area"
depending on the type of substrate. App1y adhesive in smooth even
coats, avading globs, puddles or other types aF irregularities.
c. Muie-Hide PVC Membrane used as a flashing shall be cut to a woekable
length. Adhesive should be applied to the area of substrate to be
flashed and to the back the PVC membrane at a rate of approximately
120 square feet per glon. Coverage rates will vary depending on
substrate and environmental conditions. Let adhesive dry sufficierrtly
to be tacky but not produce strings when touched with a dry, dean finger.
Note: When the PVC membrane is mated to the substrate this will
provide an approximate "finished coverage rate of 60 square feet per
gallon".
d. Carefully rdl the membrane onto the coated substrate. Avad wrinkling
membrane when applying to substrate. The amount of adhesive that can
be successfiully applied to the membrane will vary depending on ambient
temperatures, humidity and manpower. After mating membrane to the
substrate, cargfully roll the membrane with a 2" wide rubber hand roller
to prome maximum positive corrtad between the membrane and the
substrate. Overiap all adjacent flashing sheets a minimum af 2". The
PVC Membrane flashings shall extend a minimum of 6" onto the field
sheet. There shall be a minimum 1-1/2" hot-air weld in front ofi the
fastener plates. Alt side laps are to ovelap a minimurn of 2" and welded.
e. Do not apply PVC Bonding Adhesiveto seun areas that will be hot
air welded together.
3. All flashings shaU extend a minimum of 8" abave roof inembrane ievel where
possible unless previously accepted by the owner or his representative and the
Mule-Hide Warranty Department.
14
