Noted below is an overview of the requirements.
Before considering any PIRANHA dedicated waterline connection, make certain the connection and the water
source to be used, is adequate for the number and size of PIRANHA system tank(s) needed. The water source
connection and the dedicated waterline for the PIRANHA system, must be designed and installed in
accordance with the appropriate NFPA standard(s) (i.e., NFPA 13—sprinkler waterline connection; NFPA 17A
& NFPA 96 — domestic waterfine connection), the UL 300, PIRANHA Design, fnstallation, and Maintenance
Manual (P/N 423385), and the authority having jurisdiction.
NOTE:The piping requirements in NFPA 13 need ONLY be followed, when the PIRANHA dedicated
waterline is connected to a wet pipe sprinkler system, and apply only to the waterline portion of
the PIRANHA system. The requirements in NFPA 13 DO NOT apply to the PIRANHA system or
the waterline connection when the dedicated waterline is connected to the domestic water supply.
The PIRANHA system has been tested, evaluated, and listed to be used WITHOUT any additional back-flow
prevention needed. However, if the PIRANHA system is to be connected to an existing sprinkler system, or is
to be included as an addition to a sprinkler system currently being designed or under construction, make certain
all back-flow prevention, existing or intended, is reviewed and approved prior to PIRANHA system installation
by the appropriate authority having jurisdiction.
• "ONLY" connections to wet pipe sprinkler systems are acceptable. Gry pipe and pre-action type sprinkler
systems are NOT PERMITTED for use with PIRANHA.
• The dedicated PIRANHA system waterline tap to the sprinkler system must be made by an appropriately
licensed sprinkler fitter/contractor_ All pipe, fittings, and hangers from the sprinkier tap/connection to the
PIRANHA system water valve in the ANSUL AUTOMANo Regulated Release Assembly and/or Regulated
Actuator Assembly(s) must be made in accordance with the "applicable" requirements of NFPA 13. Use of
plastic pipe and fittings for this connection is not acceptable.
• For fire sprinkler system connection the minimum PIRANHA dedicated waterline pipe or tube size must be
1". Multiple PIRANHAtank systems may require larger size pipe as required.
