<br />ASSEMBLIES. IF, IN THE OPINION OF THE CONSULTANT, THE MOISTURE

<br />AND REPLACE ALL AFFECTED MATERIALS, AND TAKE ALL STEPS NECESSARY

<br />3.1. INSPECTION OF SUBSTRATE
<br />3.1.1 EXAMINE SUBSTRATE SURFACES TO RECEIVE BUILT-UP ROOFING SYSTEM
<br />AND ASSOCIATED WORK AND CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH ROOFING WILL BE
<br />INSTALLED. DO NOT PROCEED WITH ROOFING UNTIL UNSATISFACTORY
<br />CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN CORRECTED IN A MANNER ACCEPTABLE TO ROOFER.
<br />3.1.2 VERIFY THAT FLATNESS AND FASTENING OF METAL ROOF DECKS
<br />COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING:
<br />3.1.2.1 DECK FASTENING IN STRICT ADHERENCE TO FASTENING PATTERNS
<br />INDICATED IN THE
<br />CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
<br />3.1.2.2 TOP FLANGES: NO CONCAVITY OR CONVEXITY IN EXCESS OF
<br />1/16" ACROSS ANY 3 ADJACENT FLANGES.
<br />3.1.2.3 SIDE LAPS: PROPERLY NESTED AND MECHANICALLY FASTENED.
<br />3.1.2.4 END LAPS: MINIMUM 2" LAPS LOCATED OVER AND FASTENED TO
<br />SUPPORTS.
<br />3.2. GENERAL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:
<br />3.2.1 SEQUENCING OF WORK:
<br />3.2.1.1 COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF ALL BLOCKING AND GROUNDS
<br />REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION OF ROOFING SYSTEM. INSURE THAT
<br />PROPER THICKNESS OF SOLID MATERIAL IS IN PLACE FOR USE.
<br />3.2.1.2 WHERE WALL FINISHES ARE TO BE INSTALLED AFTER THE
<br />INSTALLATION OF ROOFING OR SHEET METAL MATERIALS, INSURE THAT
<br />PROPER MEASURES ARE TAKEN TO PROVIDE SOLID SUPPORT AT ALL
<br />EDGES. (EXAMPLE: WHEN PLASTER OR EIFS FINISH IS TO BE APPLIED
<br />AFTER INSTALLATION OF COPING CAP.
<br />3.2.1.3 INSTALL INSULATION LAYERS WHEN STEEL DECK INSTALLATION HAS
<br />PROGRESSED TO A POINT WHICH WILL ALLOW UNINTERRUPTED ROOFING
<br />OPERATIONS.
<br />3.2.1.4 DRY -IN THE BUILDING WITH PLY -SHEET ASSEMBLY USING
<br />TEMPORARY WATER CUT- OFFS AS NECESSARY. PROVIDE TEMPORARY
<br />DETAILS AT CURBS, IN -PLACE PENETRATIONS, PARAPETS, ROOF EDGES,
<br />AND OTHER LOCATIONS WHERE WATER INTRUSION MAY BE EXPECTED.
<br />3.2.1.5 INSTALL ALL SHEET METAL EDGE TRIM, FLASHINGS, COPINGS,
<br />ETC. BEFORE INSTALLATION OF CAP SHEET. STRIP IN IMMEDIATELY.
<br />3.2.1.6 REPAIR DAMAGE TO IN -PLACE PLY -SHEET ASSEMBLY AS
<br />NECESSARY AS SOON AFTER INSTALLATION OF SHEET METAL WORK AS
<br />POSSIBLE. CLEAN THOROUGHLY. NOTIFY MANUFACTURER FOR PRE -CAP
<br />SHEET INSPECTION.
<br />3.2.1.7 INSTALL CAP SHEET OVER REPAIRED PLY -SHEET ASSEMBLY AS SOON
<br />AS POSSIBLE.
<br />USE TORCHES OR OTHER MEANS OF ASSURING TOTALLY DRY SURFACE AT
<br />TIME OF
<br />APPLICATION.
<br />3.2.1.8 MAXIMUM ELAPSED TIME OF BARE PLY -SHEET ASSEMBLY EXPOSURE
<br />ALLOWED IS
<br />30 DAYS. WHERE IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT CAP -SHEET INSTALLATION
<br />WILL BE DELAYED MORE THAN 30 DAYS, APPLY GLAZE COAT.
<br />3.2.1.9 ALL MODIFIED BITUMEN FLASHING SHALL BE TERMINATED WITH ITS
<br />ASSOCIATED TWO PIECE COUNTER FLASHING IMMEDIATELY AFTER
<br />INSTALLATION.
<br />3.2.2 COOPERATE WITH INSPECTION AND TEST AGENCIES ENGAGED OR
<br />REQUIRED TO PERFORM SERVICES IN CONNECTION WITH BUILT-UP ROOFING
<br />SYSTEM INSTALLATION.
<br />3.2.3 PROTECT OTHER WORK FROM SPILLAGE OF BUILT-UP ROOFING
<br />MATERIALS, AND PREVENT LIQUID MATERIALS FROM ENTERING OR CLOGGING
<br />DRAINS AND CONDUCTORS. REPLACE/RESTORE OTHER WORK DAMAGED BY
<br />INSTALLATION OF BUILT-UP ROOFING SYSTEM WORK.
<br />3.2.4 INSURANCE/CODE COMPLIANCE:
<br />3.2.4.1 INSTALL BUILT-UP ROOFING SYSTEM FOR (AND TEST WHERE
<br />REQUIRED TO SHOW) COMPLIANCE WITH GOVERNING REGULATIONS AND
<br />WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF PART 1 OF THIS SECTION.
<br />3.2.4.2 PROVIDE ALL CONNECTORS, FASTENERS, ANCHOR STRAPS, AND
<br />OTHER ITEMS REQUIRED TO CONFORM TO INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS OF
<br />WIND -LOAD ZONE WHERE PROJECT IS LOCATED.
<br />3.2.4.3 SECURE CURBS AND OTHER OWNER SUPPLIED ITEMS WHICH
<br />PENETRATE THE ROOF MEMBRANE TO THE STRUCTURE TO RESIST
<br />FORCES REQUIRED OF THE REST OF THE SYSTEM.
<br />3.2.5 COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF INSULATION, ROOFING SHEETS,
<br />FLASHINGS, STRIPPING, COATINGS AND SURFACING, SO THAT INSULATION
<br />AND FELTS ARE NOT EXPOSED TO PRECIPITATION NOR EXPOSED
<br />OVERNIGHT.
<br />3.2.6 PROVIDE CUT-OFFS AT END OF EACH DAY'S WORK, TO COVER EXPOSED
<br />FELTS AND INSULATION WITH A COURSE OF COATED FELT WITH JOINTS AND
<br />EDGES SEALED WITH ROOFING CEMENT. REMOVE CUT-OFFS IMMEDIATELY
<br />BEFORE RESUMING WORK.
<br />3.2.7 ASPHALT BITUMEN HEATING: HEAT AND APPLY BITUMEN IN ACCORDANCE
<br />WITH EQUIVISCOUS TEMPERATURE METHOD ("EVT METHOD") AS RECOMMENDED
<br />BY NRCA. DO NOT RAISE TEMPERATURE ABOVE MINIMUM NORMAL
<br />FLUID -HOLDING TEMPERATURE NECESSARY TO ATTAIN EVT (+25 F OR +14 C,
<br />AT POINT OF APPLICATION) MORE THAN ONE HOUR PRIOR TO TIME OF
<br />APPLICATION. DISCARD BITUMEN WHICH HAS BEEN HELD AT TEMPERATURE
<br />EXCEEDING FINISHED BLOWING TEMPERATURE (FBT) FOR A PERIOD EXCEEDING
<br />3 HOURS. DETERMINE FLASH POINT, FINISHED BLOWING TEMPERATURE AND
<br />EVT OF BITUMEN EITHER BY INFORMATION FROM BITUMEN PRODUCER OR BY
<br />SUITABLE TESTS, AND DETERMINE MAXIMUM FIRE -SAFE HANDLING
<br />TEMPERATURE AND DO NOT EXCEED THAT TEMPERATURE IN HEATING BITUMEN;
<br />BUT IN NO CASE HEAT BITUMEN TO A
<br />TEMPERATURE HIGHER THAN 25 F (14 C) BELOW FLASH POINT.
<br />3.2.8 BITUMEN MOPPING WEIGHTS: FOR INTERPLY MOPPING, AND FOR OTHER
<br />MOPPING EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE INDICATED, APPLY BITUMEN AT AN AVERAGE
<br />RATE OF NOT LESS THAN 20 LBS. (+25% ON A TOTAL JOB AVERAGE BASIS)
<br />PER ROOF SQUARE.
<br />3.2.9 GLAZE COAT (WHEN REQUIRED FOR DELAYED CAP -SHEET INSTALLATION
<br />LONGER THAN 30 DAYS): OVER PLY SHEET ASSEMBLY, APPLY GLAZE COAT
<br />AT A RATE OF 10-12 LBS. PER ROOF SQUARE.
<br />3.2.10 SUBSTRATE JOINT PENETRATIONS: DO NOT ALLOW BITUMEN TO
<br />PENETRATE SUBSTRATE JOINTS AND ENTER BUILDING OR DAMAGE INSULATION.
<br />3.2.11 AT END OF EACH DAYS ROOFING INSTALLATION, PROTECT EXPOSED
<br />EDGE OF INCOMPLETE WORK, INCLUDING PLY SHEETS AND INSULATION.
<br />3.3. INSULATION INSTALLATION:
<br />3.3.1 GENERAL: COMPLY WITH INSULATION MANUFACTURERS' INSTRUCTIONS
<br />AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE HANDLING, INSTALLATION, AND BONDING
<br />TO SUBSTRATE OF INSULATION.
<br />3.3.2 DO NOT APPLY HOT MATERIALS TO, OR REST HOT CONTAINERS ON
<br />INSULATION AT TEMPERATURES ABOVE THOSE RECOMMENDED BY
<br />INSULATION MANUFACTURERS.
<br />3.3.3 CUT TO FIT TIGHTLY AND NEATLY AROUND ALL OBSTRUCTIONS AND ROOF
<br />PENETRATIONS.
<br />3.3.4 LAY NO MORE INSULATION IN ONE DAY THAN CAN BE COVERED WITH
<br />ROOFING THAT SAME DAY.
<br />3.3.5 USE TAPERED INSULATION TO PROVIDE CRICKETS ON THE UP -ROOF SIDE OF

<br />3.3.6 FM 1-90 ASSEMBLIES: THE FOAM INSULATION PANELS SHALL BE

<br />PRESENT), WITH FACTORY MUTUAL AND U.L. APPROVED FASTENERS, WITH ITS
<br />JOINTS STAGGERED. SUBSEQUENT LAYER(S), IF REQUIRED, SHALL BE FULLY
<br />SET, WITH THEIR JOINTS STAGGERED, IN HOT ASPHALT AT A NOMINAL RATE
<br />OF NO LESS THAN 30 LBS. PER 100 SQ FT. UNLESS GOVERNING CODES OR
<br />REGULATIONS REQUIRE TOTAL MECHANICAL ATTACHMENT. ATTACHMENT SHALL
<br />BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH U.L., FM., AND MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATIONS.
