Wire Joint Reinforcing: 9 ga. side and cross rods (ladder <br />type), Hot dipped galvanized ASTM A 153, Class B-2 <br />coating. <br /> <br />3. SUBMITTALS: <br /> <br />Submit four copies of the manufacturer's product data for each <br />type of masonry unit, accessory, and other manufactured <br />product, including certifications signed by the supplier and <br />contractors indicating that each material meets the <br />specifications. See the "Concrete" section for reinforcing and <br />grout submittals. <br /> <br />4. EXECUTION <br /> <br />a. Do not wet concrete masonry units prior to setting. <br />b. Cut masonry unit with motor driven saw desi9ned to cut <br />masonry units with clean edges. <br />c. Lay masonry in running bond (uno) <br />d. Stop work by racking back one half of masonry unit <br />length. Do not tooth. <br />e. Fill space between metal frames and masonry with mortar. <br />f. Items to be embedded in hollow cores are to have a layer <br />of metal lath placed in the joint below and have the cell <br />filled solidly with mortar. <br />g. Fill CMU three courses below bearing plates, lintels, <br />beams, posts, and similar conditions. <br />h. Do not apply building loads for at least 3 days after <br />building walls. <br />i. At the end of each days work cover tops of walls with <br />waterproof sheeting. <br />j . Metal cavity caps are to be used to block ungrouted <br />cells. No paper or buildin9 felt is to be used. <br />k. Prevent masonry from being stained by mortar, grout or <br />soil. <br />m. Lay hollow masonry units with full mortar on the <br />horizontal and vertical face shells. Bed webs in mortar <br />in the starting course on footings, foundations walls, <br />and all courses of piers, columns and pilasters, and <br />where adjacent to cells or cavities to be filled. <br />n. Maintain 3/8" mortar joints and tool all exposed joints <br />concave. <br />o. Provide span rated precast lintels over all openings of <br />more than 1'-0" without other structural supports, and <br />provide a minimum of 8" bearing. <br />p. Remove and replace loose, broken, stained, or mismatched <br />units so as to match the adjoining units and wall. <br />q. Clean exposed CMU masonry by dry brushing at the end of <br />each days work ~nd after pointing. Comply with NCMA Tek <br />no. 28. <br />r. Use special shapes (j ambs, corners, headers, lintels, <br />etc.) where required. <br />
